Young Innovators Propose Solutions for a More Sustainable Future!
On April 4–5, 2026, the "B.P. Hasdeu" University Center in Cahul hosted the hackathon "Environmental Solutions Developed by Youth", organized in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Students from the Faculty of Economics, Engineering, and Applied Sciences participated in interdisciplinary teams, developing innovative ideas and solutions oriented toward environmental protection and the sustainable use of resources.
3rd PLACE – A Business Idea for Sustainable Agriculture!
A team that included Elena Mincovschi, a first-year student in the "Business and Administration" program, secured 3rd PLACE in the competition!
The team proposed the development of a containerized tree nursery, addressing current market demand and the need to expand the supply of planting material.
The initiative aligns with the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the priorities of the National Reforestation Program, promoting green entrepreneurship and economically viable environmental solutions.
The Hackathon – From Environmental Challenges to Sustainable Business Ideas!
Participating in the event allowed students to develop and showcase a wide range of competencies:
Identifying contemporary environmental and resource management challenges;
Generating innovative ideas oriented toward sustainable development;
Applying economic and technological knowledge to solve real-world problems;
Developing entrepreneurial initiatives with social, economic, and ecological impact;
Collaborating in interdisciplinary teams and leveraging complementary skills;
Pitching and defending proposed solutions before a panel.
Green Innovation and AI-InnoSCenCE Goals
The students' participation in the Green Innovation Hackathon supports the goals of European Project No. 24159 – AI-InnoSCenCE ("AI-Empowered Innovation in Natural Science and Engineering for the Circular Economy"), funded under the EIT Higher Education Initiative within the Horizon Europe program.
Although the hackathon had a broader environmental theme, the activities align closely with AI-InnoSCenCE objectives: building entrepreneurial skills, fostering innovation, and promoting circular economy solutions.
Education, Entrepreneurship, and Collaboration for Regional Growth!
Such initiatives enable students to connect academic learning with real community challenges, contributing through creativity and drive to sustainable regional development.
